Deloxan® Metal Scavengers
The use of either heterogeneous or homogeneous catalysts can result in soluble metal contamination. These soluble metals can be detrimental to product quality and product yield. In the case of active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) development, the metal catalyst must be removed to a regulated level.
Types of metal contamination:
- almost all transition metals used in chemical synthesis
- frequently used transition metals: Pd, Pt, Rh, Ru, Ir, Zn, Cu
- metals can be oxidised, zero-valent or in colloidal form
Deloxan® Metal Scavengers offer an attractive solution to many problems related to transition metal removal and precious metal recovery.
Your benefits:
- Safe time and efforts in removing transition metals from APIs or intermediates by avoiding chromatography or crystallisation.
- Easy handling of the scavenger: you can quickly filter it off and you have no residuals of the scavenger left in your product.
- You can easily switch the mode of operation: Deloxan® Metal Scavengers can be used both in batch and fixed bed mode.
- Deloxan® Metal Scavengers can be readily applied: Deloxan® works in all solvents and up
to 250 °C.
Deloxan® Metal Scavengers are macroporous organofunctional polysiloxane beads with properties that make them ideal metal scavengers.
Our Products
Deloxan® THP II with thiourea functionality
Deloxan® MP with thiol functionality
Both are available in two grades: fine grade (0.1 – 0.3 mm) and coarse grade (0.3 – 1.4 mm).
Organofunctional polysiloxanes overcome the drawbacks of organic polymers by virtue of their inert matrix material and compatibility with solvents. Furthermore, the surface density of the functional groups that are responsible for the scavenging effect is significantly higher in Deloxan® Metal Scavengers than in surface-modified or postreacted polymers.
Product features:
- excellent metal scavenging properties for Pd, Pt, Rh, Ag, Au, Zn, Cu(I), Cd, Hg, Pb
- good metal scavenging properties for Ru, Ir, Cu(II), Fe(III)
- high structural stability (no swelling, no shrinking)
- high attrition resistance, durable, low friability
- compatible with all solvents
- high thermal stability
- no electric charging if used in wet form
- well defined pore size structure
- applicable in slurry and fixed bed mode
- excellent filtration behaviour due to large particle size
- high specific surface area
- stable in a wide pH range
- can be refined and metals recovered
- commercially available in large quantities
