Magnesium ethanolate (MgE)
MgE (synonyms: magnesium ethanolate, magnesium ethoxide, magnesium ethylate) is used as a precursor of the support of Ziegler-Natta catalysts. MgE is reacted with an excess of TiCl4 and a Lewis base to form the pre-catalyst. The final polymerisation catalyst is generated in the reaction of the pre-catalyst, a co-catalyst (e.g. triethyl aluminium) and a donor. Different grades of MgE are available for the Unipol and Hostalen process. In addition, Evonik offers tailor-made specifications (e.g. specific PSD) for MgE. Evonik’s MgE customers also benefit from our global technical support.
